Brief Review of the LG V30 Smartphone

First impression. With the LG V30, Koreans now show off a true high-end smartphone, which offers strong video capabilities and an enhanced dual camera. LG has taken complaints about the G6 to the German market and also offers the handset with wireless charging and quad-DAC audio here as well.

In the test: LG V30. Test unit provided by LG Germany.

With the LG V30, the Koreans made a big effort, producing the smartphone that many already wanted during the MWC. It brings all the missing features that were lacking in the LG G6 to become an absolutely high-end product: a current top SoC, a quad-DAC audio chip and wireless charging. In addition, there is now an OLED screen, although it still can not convince in exteriors. Apparently the LG was without a higher brightness increase through the sensor, as we know from the  Samsung Galaxy S8 , and many others.

In terms of quality and design, the LG V30 shows no weaknesses, offering a convincing color choice and a great screen / surface ratio. Anyone who picks up the smartphone for the first time will be surprised by its lightness.

The software is still Android 7.1, but an update to 8.0 Oreo is in progress. Even if our test unit is a pre-production model, the system works fairly smoothly. The USB connection is fast but unfortunately only offers the 2.0 transfer standard and no wired screen output.

The main feature, the camera, also makes a good impression and has been optimized even more. Our initial verdict is therefore quite positive, and after the final test, the LG V30 has the potential to become a winner. Once we receive a final LG test unit, we will complete the test. In November, the V30 will be available at a recommended retail price of 899 euros in Europe (~ $ 1070, probably $ 749 in the US).
